The English Department at Chittaranjan College has completed more than Two Decades.
English was taught at the Higher Secondary level in the morning,day& evening sections since its inception till the year 2004.
English Honours was introduced in the year 2005 at the Under Graduate level. English as compulsory language was part of the syllabus in both Arts & Commerce Department since its inception.
Over the years it has expanded with full time and part time faculty members following a student oriented method of imparting knowledge with special attention on individual potential.
The two stalwarts of the department of English, Prof. Sunil Kumar Saha and Prof. Rina Chatterjee taught at this College in both the Higher Secondary and Undergraduate levels till the year 1994 & 2005 respectively, Prof. Seema Ray Bindal joined this institution as Jr, Lecturer-in-English in 1994 and is presently Associate Professor,She had been the Morning College in-charge from the year 2010 to 2014.
and as Head of the department till 2019, Governing Body member, Student’s Affairs Incharge and IQAC Co–ordinator of the College.
Prof. Sanghita Basu joined as part time Lecturer in the year 2010 and subsequently rose to become a contractual teacher,
Prof. Sangeeta Rakshit joined as Assistant Professor in the year 2017 and is presently the Head of the Department.
Prof. Pranamita Roy also joined as part time faculty in the year 2010.
At present there is one Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor and two SACT – 2 teachers in the department.

The English Department of Chittaranjan College has today grown to become a premier and one of the most sought after courses offered at the undergraduate level and offers a holistic student focused career oriented teaching- learning experience that hones the students individual skills and to equip them with language skills required to fulfill industry criteria.

● Dipayan Samanta, year of passing 2010, placed as Enforcement Officer, Motor Vehicles at Transport Department of West Bengal.
● Moumita Jana, year of passing 2018, placed as ICDS supervisor, Group B ( nongazetted) Officer at the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, Govt of West Bengal.
● Soumyasree Das ( year of passing 2016), graduated from Chittaranjan College won Bronze medal individually from South Asian Gymnastic championship,,, Also India stood won Silver medal in team event.
● Swastika Tarafdar(year of passing 2019), placed in Susrijo Institute of Paramedical Technology and Optometry , a kalyani University affiliated college in Krishnagar.
● Mrinmoy Mondal( year of passing 2011), established as a contemporary song writer and singer, also working as English teacher in Sarsuna College.
● Jayendra Parekh (year of passing 2015), got featured in magazines and hosted many Open Mic events. He has also written a short film called “Rannaburi” which has been selected in 7 International Film Festival .
● Sherful, year of passing 2020,placed as an English Teacher at St. Joseph, Katwa.
● Shivani Dutta, year of passing 2022, received Platoon Commanders Award of the DTE

The department started as 3 Years B.A. Honours Course in 2005.
3 Years Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in B.A. Honours in English is running since 2018.
4 Years B.A. (Honours & Honours with Research) in English (Under CCF 2022) started in 2023 with subject combinations in Semester 1:
