The Commerce Department of this college has started its journey since the inception of college i.e., 23rd August 1967. In the initial period the college was offering 10+2 classes of Commerce curriculum under WBCHSE along with B. Com courses under University of Calcutta. Thereafter as per the guidelines of Higher Education Department it offers only the B.Com Curriculum under the University of Calcutta with specialization in Accounting & Finance. As the college is located in Central Kolkata (in between Howrah-Sealdaha) it acts as a bridge among the students residing to the localities connected with these two railway junctions.

Presently Dr. Sukhada Gangopadhyay, Associate Professor is acting as HOD of this department and associated with Dr. Jayasree Das, Associate Professor, Dr. Shib Pada Patra, Associate Professor, Dr. Sitansu Kumar Das, Assistant Professor, Ms. Soumy Mandal, Assistant Professor, Mr. Barun Shaw (SACT),Ms. Sanghamitra Banerjee(SACT),Dr. Shabana Khatun(SACT).

The mission of this department is to equip the students with the knowledge and practical training so that they can combat with the present competitive world and also to motivate them in higher education as well as professional courses for their better future.

Vision is to offer quality education along with hands-on training, assisting weaker section of the students for their upliftment, providing the opportunities for exchange of knowledge, giving innovative ideas and entrepreneurial guidelines for self- employment.

Many of the students are well placed, well established in different sector of the society with moral and ethical values.
