    Inclusive Learning

In contemporary society, inclusive education has emerged as a prominent concept. The principle of inclusive education was endorsed at the “World Conference on Special Needs Education: Access and Quality” held in Salamanca, Spain, in 1994, and reaffirmed at the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal, in 2000. The notion of inclusion is further reinforced by the United Nations’ Standard Rules on Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities, advocating for participation and equality for all individuals. In India, the journey towards inclusivity commenced with the National Policy on Education of 1986, followed by the Programme of Action in 1992, both emphasizing the importance of integrating children with special needs into mainstream educational settings.

Amidst the drive for inclusivity, Chittaranjan College has been steadfastly dedicated to making education accessible to everyone and fostering a supportive environment. Chittaranjan College exemplified its commitment to inclusivity by extending support to a student grappling with major vision impairment and difficulty navigating stairs. Recognizing the student’s challenges, the college administration, along with both teaching and non-teaching staff, collaborated to allocate classes on the first floor, ensuring accessibility and ease of movement. Moreover, the student received invaluable support from his peers while he was away due to medical treatment, thereby, underscoring the college community’s ethos of empathy and solidarity. This proactive measure not only addressed the student’s immediate needs but also fostered an inclusive learning environment.

Chittaranjan College authority along with the students demonstrated their commitment to social responsibility by organizing blood donation campaigns and actively raising awareness about the critical need for blood donations. Through concerted efforts and collaborative initiatives, students mobilized their peers and the wider community to participate in these campaigns.

The institution with the support of the students exemplified their commitment to social welfare by organizing initiatives to support underprivileged communities in their neighbourhood. They demonstrated compassion and empathy by distributing clothes to elderly individuals facing economic hardships. Additionally, recognizing the importance of education, they extended their support to underprivileged students by distributing books and other study materials. These efforts were aimed at empowering and uplifting those in need within their local community. Through these actions, Chittaranjan College not only provided tangible assistance but also promoted a sense of solidarity and goodwill among their peers.
